Atlanta Dining Podcast, Restaurant Reviews: Nur Kitchen, Rina’s Kitchen, Il Giallo, Brooklyn Café, Po’Boy Shop

Episode 12 of the famed…okay infamous Atlanta Grubber podcast. I get ITP and, in some cases, barely OTP, so not just AlphaRozCreek by any means on this broadcast. We talk about Il Giallo, a smidgen outside of 285 on Roswell Road. It’s home to my wife’s favorite item favorite of said item. I was also able to corroborate several other top shelf restaurants I’ve been hearing a lot about. Nur Kitchen, holy heck, yes everything you heard is true. It’s great. What to get? Listen?

Pretty much every person I know who has been to the Po’Boy Shop in Decatur says they have the best Nawlins sandwiches. Put me on that bandwagon! Casa Robles from one of my favorite restauranteurs is another winner from Ryan Pernice. Maybe my two favorite meatballs are discussed on this episode including from here!

On the Beltline, I may have brought on the Armageddon with what I ordered at Rina’s Kitchen. The newest “hidden gem” La Fondita puts out great food at the former home of a no-longer-hidden one!

Favorite items in town? My wife and I each may have found one or more at Brooklyn Café. The best banh mi is at the Asian Square on Buford Highway at Quôc Húóng.

Atlanta Restaurant Reviews: ITP, OTP Nigerian, Afghani, Korean, Mediterranean, Japanese Restaurants and More

I really cover the map on Episode 11 of the famed Atlanta Grubber podcast, for all your Atlanta foodie needs. We eat Nigerian at Fly Chef Atlanta. ITP, I hit El Burro Pollo at the Collective near GA Tech. Great Korean food at BB Myun in Duluth, Sushi Mito in Peachtree Corners, Public Woodstock a place that makes their sandwich meats in house. Best Barbecue is both on Buford Highway and Duluth. I had some duck at the one OTP. The Dutch from Dutch Monkey Donuts puts out some great fries. I eat on Buford Highway at La Mei Zi, Afghani at Olomi’s in Johns Creek, and long-time fave Samad Mediterranean Grill.

Atlanta Restaurant Podcast: Hidden Gems in Vinings, Suwanee, Dunwoody, Canton, Alpharetta, Duluth

Atlanta Grubber is back with episode 10. I work the OTP eats map with the possibly the best Chinese in Atlanta history in Duluth (not Masterpiece, but we love that), sensational barbecue in Canton, GA, two special Suwanee eats places, Jamaican and breakfast. Where is one of the best cheesesteaks in Greater Atlanta. It’s hidden in Alpharetta. I go to Dunwoody and tell you a place where Wright’s Gourmet was is possibly better. 

I assure you there are places I talk about that it’s a disgrace are not on high-profile critics’ best of lists.

Atlanta Restaurant Review Podcast: From the Earth, Chattahoochee Food Works, Madras Chettinaad, Much More

Finally, episode 9 of the never-won-an-award podcast the Atlanta Grubber. I get all over town. In my backyard, I talk about From the Earth, which is a great restaurant, brewery, hangout, and now concert venue! Once a Decatur restaurant, now in Alpharetta, Madras Chettinaad is flat out one of the premier dining destinations in the area.

I give you an early scouting report on Chattahoochee Food Works, from Andrew Zimmerman, which appears to be well on its way to being the top food hall in the metro area. TydeTate Kitchen was where my maiden voyage was. But I have tried some previous locations of forthcoming purveyors and I tell you which ones I’m looking forward to. 

We finally have a good restaurant at Mansell Road and North Point Parkway. The drought ends with Passador Steak House. Two stud chefs Richard Ullio and Mike Di Paolo opened one of the best restaurants in Dunwoody, Novo Cucina.

Near Halcyon in Forsyth Country are two good places, Heidi’s Heavenly Cookies featured on national TV shows and publications, plus Jay’s Mexican Grill, which boasts they are, “Definitely not Tex-Mex.”

Restaurant Review Podcast: Alpharetta’s Savory Gourmet, Masterpiece Chinese Moves to Johns Creek

Episode 8 of Atlanta Grubber focuses on some fantastic restaurants again. Masterpiece Chinese has moved to a bigger and fancier location, extending the too-often-overlooked Asian Alley of Johns Creek. I had a lot of dishes and talk about many of them. 

A real New York deli in Alpharetta? No way. Wait until we tell you about Savory Gourmet in downtown Alpharetta. Forget about your Boar’s Head sandwiches. Turn it up several notches at Savory Gourmet. Great grab and go stuff is available as well. We probably should have talked about Seven Sisters Scones Café. There is so much great premade foods at their shop in Suwanee. 

The pain of losing O4W Pizza should be eased by being replaced by Glide Pizza on the Atlanta Beltline. I also visited Stone’s Cuisine and Cocktails and liked some dishes I specify. Two nice dessert options are Pop BarAlpharetta and Mr. Tino’s in Roswell, the latter has a lot more than ice cream.

I-75 Roadfood; Best Restaurants in Ohio, Tennessee, Kentucky

Hopefully you caught out first special edition episode about Columbus, Ohio eats. It’s where my son goes to school. But we drive, so I have to research what to eat on the way. I have found gems in Knoxville, and yes a town called Rocky Top in Tennessee. Also, great eats in Kentucky in Lexington, Berea. Just over the bridge, we eat in Cincinnati. In the Knoxville and Cincinnati area we have several each. 

This episode is heavy on the barbecue, but is there better roadfood than ‘cue? But quite a few other cuisines are mentioned as well. I even go out on a limb and distinguish my top 3 in order.

Atlanta Dining Podcasts: Top Women Chefs

It’s Women’s History Month thus your infallible restaurant whisperer is going to feature some of the best female chefs and restaurant owners in metro. We start out with the personable Soroya Khoury from Hen Mother Cookhouse. The Napa Valley trained chef has built up an enormous following. Likewise, Jasmine Willis Slewitzke of Gracious Plenty gained years of experience with Ford Fry’s restaurants before turning Canton Street head over heels in love. 

Nooshin Yazdani of Noosh Kitchen earned a loyal following before expanding the restaurant and menu, transitioning to a more formal atmosphere. Nahm Thongyoung, chef/owner at Nahm Fine Thai Cuisine was a soothsayer, among the first to open top-shelf cuisine in what once was a chain of fools. Sripapa Oyanturak of M Thai Street Food has a fancier menu and creature comforts than “street food” might imply. 

Cakes by Darcy has a very loyal following purely by word of mouth. Who does better cupcakes? Not sure anyone. Two other young ladies also put out tasty and beautiful cakes, but also excel on the savory side. Safoora Kamali of Swan Café and Liud De Jesus Lopez, Liud’s Cuban Bakery & Café are two small, but outstanding sweet and savory places. Belen de la Cruz of Empanadas & Pastries is getting noticed by big media. Not sure if her small eatery qualifies as “hidden” anymore, but it’s still a gem.  

Briana Carson has two locations of Crave Pie in both Parson’s Alley and Alpharetta City Center. Arpena Satyu-Burge of Dutch Monkey Donuts brought great food to an area that is developing into the next great restaurant town. Michelle Liu and Karen Wang of Mama’s Kitchen gets some more love from us. 

Some key sous chefs at elite restaurants deserving of a mention are Jess Libatore, Sous Chef at Table and Main and Laura Orellana, Executive Sous Chef at Osteria Mattone
